Crossing The Red Sea
Crossing The Red Sea
The Jews have left Egypt, but they now find that the Red Sea is in front of them, making it impossible for them to proceed. Pharaoh's army is quickly approaching from behind. What shall they do? Should they return to Egypt? Should they fight the Egyptians? Or should they drown themselves in the sea? There is much discussion among the people about the proper course of action. Not knowing what to do, the people pray for guidance. God then tells Moses in so many words.
Beginning on Tuesday evening of this week, Jews all over the world will commemorate the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea.
"Don't cry to Me. Go forward, raise your staff and I will split the Sea." The key is to trust in God and move forward. There are times in our lives when we are not to cry to God; that is, rather, not collapse around our fears, and our story of victimhood, but rather, these are the times when we must strengthen ourselves with our faith. Now is the time for us to let go of our resistance to what is happening, uncover and embody the preciousness of the moments of life as they are unfolding for us and within us. We must pray for and bless everyone who is working so hard to provide for us and take care of us now. We are all in this together. May this challenge bring people together. Being angry right now only robs a person of the capacity to receive blessing.
Like the Jews who wanted to return to a familiar Egypt, even though they were enslaved there, some of us may yearn to return to what was normal prior to the onset of the Coronavirus. Yet the Jews could not go back to Egypt! Similarly, we must give up such fantasies of going back. This experience will change each of us, hopefully for the better.
To simply wait this time out or to run away from what is happening is to deny ourselves the awesome spiritual opportunity available to us right now. What awaits us after we cross this Red Sea challenge in the world will be much greater than the normal life we left behind.
What is happening in the world and to each of us is not an accident! We each know this in the depths of our heart and soul. This time is not easy for anyone, it is terribly sad and traumatic, but we can still find spiritual blessing now within all the challenges.
The story goes that as the Jews cross the Red Sea, the Sea miraculously parts. Moses and Miriam both sing. When words alone are not a sufficient response to what has taken place, we have to sing, and like the women who crossed the Red Sea, we have to dance. The song sung at the crossing of the Red Sea reverberates forever. For that brief time, God was not hidden in nature, but revealed through it. The people sang "He is my God". Without a doubt, they "saw" God clearly in front of them. We carry the soul memory of this experience within our being.
Miriam led the women in circle dances as they crossed the Red Sea. The circle is the symbol of the feminine. The circle has important spiritual properties. First, the circle has no beginning or end. There is no past and no future. The circle also reminds us that God is always the center, and every point in the circle is equidistant from the center. Feminine energy is circular, inclusive, and egalitarian... Through circle dances, a woman learns, embodies, and teaches the world that every person is equally important. Everyone is beloved. Without each person in the circle, there would be a hole. Dancing in a circle also reminds a woman ultimately to be a vessel and create holy vessels in her life as well. So when the women danced in circles it was to embody these deep teachings. We are learning so strongly today about the preciousness of each person.
Here are some additional quotes from the interview with Miriam the prophetess in The Secret Legacy of Biblical Women .
Question : The song you sang that is recorded in the Bible was a very succinct song, in the present tense while Moses' song was much longer and sung in the future tense - Why is that?
Miriam : The song of Moses was prophetic, revealing what will take place in the time period known as the End of Days. It is therefore sung in future tense because this is the song that is to be sung for the time to come. What we experienced crossing the Red Sea was only a taste of the redemption that will come in the future when all evil will be obliterated and God is totally revealed through nature. My song was also prophetic but it was more of a chant, brief, and sung in the present tense.
Question : Why was your song short and sung in the present tense?
Miriam : One does not need many words to reveal a deeper truth - The fewer the words, the deeper the truth. At the crossing of the Red Sea, the women through the short chant and circle dances were able to draw down, reveal and even embody higher spiritual supernal lights than Moses, who was singing for a future time. In the deepest truth, there is only truly the now. The Divine Presence, the Shechinah, is only revealed in the present moment. The present is surely a present, by that, I mean a gift!
May we each, the Jewish people as a whole and all good people in the world, today be blessed with many Crossing of Red Sea moments in their lives until the final redemption in the future, when all evil will be obliterated and God is totally revealed through nature. May our hearts open with greater love and gratitude. May we each walk in the greater unity with the world. May COVID disappear miraculously.
Love and many Blessings, MMM (Miriam, Melinda, Mindy)
One of my most favorite quotes in the book.
"My dear brothers and sisters, do not feel limited by what appears in front of you. I never saw things as they appeared to be, but only as they would be in a more perfected state. Do not dwell on what is lacking in your life or in the world. Believe in your dreams, trust your passion, and pay attention to what makes you excited and enthusiastic. Say "Yes" to life and claim your spiritual ticket to the new world that is unfolding before you." -From the Interview with Sister Miriam, our prophetess in The Secret Legacy of Biblical Women: Revealing the Divine Feminine and Biblical Women Who Changed the World.
